Link related contacts and message them together
Connect two people in your network as a pair, message them together, and merge them into one record when you export.
Mark two people in your network as related, spouse, business partner, whatever the connection actually is, and you can include both of them the next time you reach out.
Why it matters
Some relationships genuinely come in pairs. You don't think of a couple as two separate contacts with nothing to do with each other; you think of them together. Related contacts let Relatable reflect that instead of forcing you to keep the connection in your head.
It also means a message doesn't leave someone out by accident. If you're writing to one half of a pair, you shouldn't have to remember to loop the other one in separately, and if you're exporting a list for holiday cards or a mail merge, you shouldn't end up with two pieces of mail going to the same house.
How it works
A related-contacts link is a pair: exactly two people, connected by a relationship you name, like spouse, partner, business partner, referral, roommate, or colleague. It shows up on both contacts' profiles. When you send an email to one of them, you can choose to include their related contacts in that same send, whether it's an individual email or a split message. Each recipient still gets their own thread and their own open tracking. The pairing also carries over when you export: a CSV built for a mail merge or mailing labels merges a related pair into a single row instead of listing them separately.
How to use it
- On the web: open a contact's profile and add a related contact from there, then name the relationship.2. The link appears on both profiles at once; you only set it up one time.
- When composing a message to someone with a related contact, look for the option to include their related contacts in the send.
- This works for both an individual email and a split message. Each person still gets their own copy, tracked separately. See Send an email from Relatable and Send one email to fifty people, personalized.
- When you export a CSV for a mail merge or mailing labels, turn on the mailing mode and related pairs come out as one row per household instead of two. See Export contacts for a mail merge or holiday cards.
Good to know
- A related-contacts link is always between exactly two people. For a group larger than that, a topic works better, like tagging a friend group.
- Naming the relationship is up to you; Relatable doesn't restrict it to a fixed list.
- Including related contacts on a send doesn't merge them into one message. Each person still gets an individually tracked copy.
- Exporting is the one place they do merge: a mail-merge or mailing-label export folds a related pair into a single row, so you're not sending two of everything to one address.
- Removing a related-contacts link removes it from both profiles at once.
